CARRY-ON YOUR GOWN!
Do Not Put Your Wedding Gown in Checked Backage!
Carry on your wedding gown and any other unique items vital to your ceremony.
Choose St John or St Thomas or Another Island
A Love City Wedding can coordinate your destination wedding not only on St John or St Thomas, but on many other Caribbean Islands as well. Ask us about planning a destination wedding for you on our neighbor island, the BVI’s treasured gem, Jost Van Dyke.
Advance Notice To Your Guests & Bridal Party
Tell your guests & bridal party about destination St John before you ask them to stand by your side so that they can gracefully decline if finances are tight.
Get help, a Wedding Planner Who Knows the Ins & Outs
Your planner will shoulder the burden of researching, auditioning, and securing local vendors. Your planner is also behind-the-scenes, creating gift bags for guests, providing concierge services , keeping your guests busy with fun activities once here, vetting special requests (babysitters, dry cleaners, and so on), and getting everyone where they need to be on time. Hourly rates do apply. If you’ve signed up for a St John destination wedding package, the 20% service charge of the wedding planning will be added.
Choosing Ceremony & Event Locations From Home
No need to scout and secure your key venues (beach, reception, villas, hotels for guests, rehearsal dinner venue) and local suppliers (private chefs, caterers, florists, photographers, etc) when you work with a planner. Together you and your planner will make all of these decisions ahead of time, stress free.
Common Needs Upon Your Arrival
Once you arrive, you may want to arrange tasks associated with many weddings. You can have your planner set up “tastings” with your private chef, caterer, restaurant, & wedding cake baker. Sample champagnes and see sample bouquets from the florist. Hair and makeup sessions can be scheduled pre-event, and activities (boating, daytrips, tennis, tours, etc.) for you and your guests can be organized. Paying a planner for assistance with these details can actually save you money.
Some Extra Details for Your Guests
Remember, unlike a wedding in your hometown, guests are dependent on you once they reach destination St John. Make sure you provide transportation to and from the airports, as well as to all the events.
Be Available to Your Guests
Since your guests have travelled away from home for your wedding, expect to see more of them than you would at a hometown wedding. Have your planner, groomsmen and bridesmaids help you with some of the extra hand-holding some out of town guests may need. Get information from your planner that will help your guests plan their free time activities and enrich their visit to St John.
Make a Plan for Wedding Presents
You may want to plan on receiving gifts before you leave or when you get home to avoid traveling with extra baggage. If you do decide to receive your gifts while in St. John, ask if someone who lives in your city can take them back and keep them for you until after the honeymoon—or even drop them at your home. If you plan to take care of getting your gifts home, pack an extra duffle bag to bring them home in. Figure this out before the wedding so you’ll have a plan of action if you need it.
Weather
Please consider that St John is a sub tropical climate when choosing your gown and the grooms attire.
Island time
Remember that St John runs on “island time”—things happen when they happen—and keep an open mind. Minor mishaps can sometimes make for the best memories.
Pack Right
Whatever you bring with you, you’ll have to lug along for the trip.
Guest list
Stay on top of your guest list, save-the-date cards, invitations, RSVP’s, and thank you notes. Save-the-date cards should be sent out 10 months to a year in advance. Why? Everyone wants to visit you in St John, see your events, and have a vacation.
Wedding Website
Share the details with your guests on your personal wedding website – choose the wedding website that’s right for you, tell your story, add photographs, and include the details of your St John Meet and Greet cocktail hour, Welcome party, rehearsal dinner, wedding site, and wedding reception.
If You Don’t Have a Planner, Do Vendor checkup
If you are not working with a planner, you would probably end up hiring your vendors sight unseen. If so, ask for their portfolios, a CD, or visit their website.
