Coral Bay, St John US Virgin Islands, is home to a village which was at one point the hub of the Danish settlers’ commerce and civilization. In 1572, along came Sir Francis Drake. This heralded the colorful era of piracy in the region, with Drake basing his own opportunistic flotilla at Coral Bay, St John.  The most infamous pirate of the time was Blackbeard, you’ll hear mention of his exploits while you’re in the USVI’s.   In the early 1700’s, the European settlers came in to cash in on what they saw was a lucrative sugar trade.  Today, remnants of the sugar plantations and the complex distilleries can still be found nestled away in the woods of St John.  Sorry, the pirates are gone; but we still have annual flotillas and boat races that are held in Coral Bay.  Coral Bay still continues to be one of the more beautiful natural splendors of St John as its rich blue waters lead the eye out to a spectacular horizon opening up to the British Virgin Islands.  It’s a great location to hold A Love City Wedding/A St John Event sunrise ceremony!

In terms of the island’s current civilization, Coral Bay is said to be second only to Cruz Bay when rated for liveliness and accessibility.  In fact, Coral Bay has a wide selection of fine seaside restaurants, bars, markets, daytrips, water sports, and shops.

For everything from fascinating historical ruins to exceptional scenery, eateries, and bars, to simple fun in the sun, Coral Bay is a great place to visit when you’re on St John.
